There are many benefits to alternating riding with lunging. For example, lunging young horses is a good preparation for learning the command words, but also a way to exercise the horse without riders. It is also good constructive work for horses with weakly muscled backs or with back problems.

Longing or working by hand is a good alternative to riding, for example when the horse should have an easier job or when we start learning the piaffe.
